Stefanie Kelley Haines
My interest to be in healthcare started at a young age. I was a Sophomore in high school when I attended Michigan Technological University Summer Youth Program to explore Medical Physiology. I returned to high school for my Junior year and took an Advanced Placement Chemistry class. I wanted to be in the medical field but also loved the Chemistry class. Medical Technology was the combination of everything I was interested in, being able to help patients by giving physicians the information they need to be able to give patients the best treatment for them. I graduated from Michigan Technological University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science. I began my career in the laboratory in Cheboygan, Michigan. After years in the laboratory I went back to school at Walden University and graduated with my Master of Healthcare Administration in 2014.
I had the opportunity to attend the Leadership and Longevity conference held in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This was my first exposure to the Wellness Way and getting to meet Dr. Patrick Flynn. It was a life changing event. 2 months prior to that my ex-husband had died of colon cancer. I sat in that room and cried because I couldn’t understand why God would place me in that room too late to be able to help my son’s father. It then hit me that it wasn’t so that I could help my ex, it was so that I could help my child. During that conference there were many chiropractic speakers that talked about the importance of chiropractic care in keeping you body healthy and cancer free. Cancer loves areas where there isn’t oxygen, where blood supply has been cut off. A spine without chiropractic care is that environment. I believe I was also put in that room because of my husband. As part of going to the conference, every attendee was gifted with a new patient visit. I decided then to give the visit to him. This began our journey with the Wellness Way.
We moved to Burns, Oregon in April of 2013. I began working at the hospital as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in July of 2013. In 2015, I became the Director, Clinical Services. In July 2017 we purchased the local fitness center, Harney County Fitness. It has been a joy and full of exciting things since then. When we started talking about our dream of becoming a part of the Wellness Way it didn’t seem possible. But because of our love of knowledge, roots in testing, and understanding the Wellness Way approach it has become a reality.
In my “free” time I love to work out, read, work on personal development, and hang out with my family. Mike and I have 6 boys ranging from 19 down to 7. Owning the gym is not only a dream for us but also a way to include our children into the healthy lifestyle. Chiropractic care, exercise, and avoiding your food allergies isn’t just what we tell our clients, it is the way we live.
From a young age I had to know how things worked, I took things apart and put them back together just to figure out the inner workings. By high school I had an interest in the body and how it worked. I got into weight training at by my early teens and learned about nutrition and how to make my body function optimally. By college I had decided on a career in Medicine and in 1991 graduated from Northern Michigan University with my bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. In this role, I worked closely with physicians assisting them with diagnoses, sometimes retroactively as I also assisted pathologists with autopsy. I have always found it fascinating to make a discovery that the doctors are or aren’t looking for. It is humbling to be the very first person to discover a diagnosis that are often life-changing for the patient. I have continued the role of Clinical Laboratory Scientist, having gone on to earn my Masters of Healthcare Administration degree in 2014 and am now a hospital laboratory manager in Burns, Oregon.
I was introduced to the Wellness Way approach by becoming a patient in 2010. Despite having a decent diet and exercising regularly, as well as seeking conventional medicine care, I was tired, overweight and in pain. Through thorough testing by the Wellness Way it was found that I had an autoimmune condition, Lupus, which through appropriate changes in diet and regular chiropractic care I was able to control and relieve myself of the symptoms. Health and nutrition are still of great importance to me, I continue to follow a Wellness Way approach to health and nutrition, still am active in weight training and now own the local fitness center, Harney County Fitness – a Wellness Way Affiliate. My wife Stefanie and I have 6 boys that we guide on our journey of health and wellness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Anywhere from 30 minutes to two (2) hours depending on the patient. This allows for a thorough review of your history; a physical examination; and any lab testing deemed necessary. We also allow ample time for you to ask questions.
Yes. Most new patient evaluations involve several doctors and/or nurses.
Some of the charges are billable to insurance. Exams, x-rays, and chiropractic manipulations (aka adjustments) are billable to insurance but coverage depends on your individual policy. It is the patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance company to verify what chiropractic coverage is in place (in-network or out-of-network depending upon which insurance company you have coverage with).
Functional medicine or nutrition services are not billable to insurance at this time.
Lab work results are very important and will typically assist the doctor in determining the plan of care. If prior lab work has not been completed, our doctors may recommend lab testing at your first appointment. This typically involves blood work or test kits.
Several lab companies offer insurance billing and others are cash only. If insurance billing IS available, the lab company will bill the lab to insurance, but it will be your responsibly to check your insurance coverage. If labs are necessary, additional testing and billing options will be discussed at the time the patient receives the lab.
Most patients with nutritional health concerns will have supplements recommended. Each supplement is chosen for the patient for a specific reason based upon the symptoms described to the doctor, as well as the results of any lab testing. The doctor will get into further details about the supplements ordered for you at your second appointment.
The intent is always for the patient to eventually lessen the number and/or dosage of supplements, but the timeline for this is different for each patient and is based upon the improvement of the patient’s condition over time. Often improvements are seen by 3-6 months and again at 9-12 months, however, results may take longer if patient fails to implement the dietary recommendations.
Due to Quality control, all Supplements are non refundable.
After we receive your test results, we will call you to set up your next appointment. At this appointment, the doctor will go over your test results, your plan of care, and give you an estimate for length of care.
The billing department will meet with you to discuss financial aspects and discounted plans. Plans range from $900 to $2,500. Follow up appointments will be scheduled. These may include, but are not limited to, follow ups with the doctor, chiropractic adjustments, and dietary consultations.
Based on your signs and symptoms, X-rays may need to be completed as well as orthopedic testing. After the first few appointments, you will receive a doctor’s report. The doctor’s report will include information about your x-rays and a recommended plan of care. Adjustments will begin within the first few appointments. At this point, if you would like, you can speak with a member of our billing department about chiropractic care plans.
